Diamond engagement rings: Peaches is engaged AGAIN!

22/12/2011

Diamond engagement rings have been a hot topic this week as Peaches Geldof, 22, stepped out on to the red carpet for the world premiere of the new blockbuster The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Peaches rocker boyfriend Thomas Cohen apparently popped the question 6 months ago but the young couple have been keeping the news of their engagement under wraps.

This is Peaches second engagement, Bob Geldof's wild child daughter became divorced at the very young age of 19 in 2008 after marrying boyfriend Max Drummey in Las Vegas at The Little White Chapel just one month after they met, the marriage only lasted a couple of months, hopefully she will be taking it slower this time. Peaches new ring followed the increasing fashion of multi stone diamond engagement rings, the style of her ring is vintage, and the diamonds are set in antique gold. Peaches and Thomas are hoping to get married in a couple of years’ time.

Diamond engagement rings are the number one way of showing your partner how much you love them and letting them know you want to spend the rest of your life with them. At Mad About Diamonds we have a huge range of diamond engagement rings to suit all styles, all of our rings are beautifully hand crafted by our professional goldsmiths to the highest quality so you can be guaranteed that your chosen ring will last a lifetime. Diamond dress rings: The Crown Jewels of Hollywood

14/12/2011

An auction including a wide collection of diamond dress rings, necklaces, bracelets, pendants and diamond earrings all belonging to the late Elizabeth Taylor was held yesterday at Christie’s in New York, the auction broke the world record for a single owner jewellery auction. In total there was 80 pieces of jewellery in the auction, the collection had been named the ‘Crown jewels of Hollywood’, the auction was estimated to bring approximately £12.9 million, it actually brought a grand total of £74 million. The previous world record for a single owner jewellery auction was set in 1987 when the Duchess of Windsor’s collection was auctioned in Geneva.

The star of the evening was the Elizabeth Taylor Diamond, a 33.29 carat asscher-cut diamond dress ring given to her by Richard Burton in 1968. She wore it nearly every day. It was expected to fetch £1.6 million-£2.2 million but it sold for a massive £5,643,840, the ring was purchased by a private buyer from Asia. However the piece that sold for the highest price was the necklace known as the ‘La Peregrina’ which incorporates a huge 16th century 50.6 carat pearl which was owned previously by royalty including Queen Mary I given to her by husband King Philip II of Spain. Part of the proceeds from the auction will go to The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, which she established in 1991 to help people living with AIDS.

At Mad About Diamonds we have a huge range of diamond dress rings available to suit all price ranges so if you want to treat someone special this Christmas to a gift that they will cherish forever we have just what you are looking for.

Diamond Engagement Rings - Trends for 2012; Vintage (Part 1)

14/12/2011

A buzz word around diamond engagement rings for 2012 is “Vintage”. Designers are looking back to decades long since passed in order to create their gems of the future. It seems that the idea is very much, why have one diamond or one stone when you can have lots!? At the moment trends are coming from all aspects of history with the Edwardian and Victorian influences as well as blasts from the elaborate Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements.

At this point you may simply be wondering what we mean by “Vintage” and how will this influence the diamond engagement rings trend? Put simply, a vintage ring can be a piece from almost any era that is more than several decades old, a 1960’s solitaire diamond engagement rings, can now be classed as a vintage piece, however true vintage would be from the late 1800’s to early 1900’s. It is also possible for new pieces to take inspiration from vintage design and so the piece would have a vintage feel but can be made with the latest technologies and metals, this can be referred to as “new” vintage. Some of the more popular eras to take inspiration from or possess an engagement ring from are; Georgian, Edwardian, Victorian, Art Deco and Retro.

Items from the Georgian era typically include diamonds as well as coloured gemstones and the stones are smaller and multiple unlike the recent trend towards solitaire diamond engagement rings. Edwardian style tends to include more intricate detailing and lady-like style, including diamonds in fancy scroll and milgrain detail. Victorian vintage includes the use of multiple metals in a piece to create a layered look and multi-colour feel. The diamonds from this era are typically “old-min” cut, which is known today as antique cushion cut. Art Deco brings forward a geometric sleek style with defining lines, unusually complemented with black accents or colour stones. Retro vintage is the epitome of the big and bold style that encompassed the 1960s-1980s.

Diamond Engagement Rings - Trends for 2012; Coloured Stones (Part 2)

14/12/2011

In this second part of our look at diamond engagement rings trends for 2012 we explore the fabulous world of coloured stones. Sometimes, as the Duchess of Cambridge, we are certain would agree a coloured stone can be beautifully complemented by diamonds or vice versa. Here at Mad About Diamonds we are happy to explore the world of coloured stones, but we are certain that diamonds will always hold their place in a girls heart, diamonds are after all a girl’s best friend.
The second main trend for 2012 seems to be set around coloured gem stones, such as sapphires, rubies and emeralds, as we have alluded to Kate Middleton may have enhanced this trend. Coloured stones are not a new trend and as we have mentioned they have very much been a part of fashion in the past, including the Georgian movement as well as the Art deco movement. However, coloured diamonds have been sported by some of Hollywood’s betrothed celebrities, such as Mariah Carey with her pink diamonds as well as Rebecca Romijn (Mystique from the X-Men films) with her beautiful yellow diamond ring.
If you are however, a fan of a simpler yet dazzling look then please browse our collection of diamond engagement rings. We wholeheartedly believe that even on its own a diamond can offer something a little different, the marquise engagement ring for example offers a quirky shape and yet a classic stone. At Mad About Diamonds we want to offer the best possible service we can, so if you love one of our ring styles but are looking for more of a bespoke engagement rings, please contact us and we will be happy to discuss or services with you.

Diamond engagement rings: Free from conflict.

14/12/2011

Diamond engagement rings are purchased in their millions over the Christmas period, Christmas appears to be the most popular time for a man to propose to his girlfriend but have you ever bared a thought as to where your precious diamond has come from?

Conflict diamonds also known as blood diamonds have been an on-going issue in the world of politics, the term conflict diamonds refers to the diamonds that have been mined in a war zone area and sold to finance insurgency, this is a huge issue in Africa especially Zimbabwe. Recently the anti-blood diamond advocacy group Global Witness withdrew its support for the Kimberley Process, a conflict-free diamond certification organization that it helped to found. A member of the Global Witness campaign believes that the Kimberley Process has failed to push back diamonds from conflict zones, most recently approving gems from the Marange fields in Zimbabwe, where the diamond trade has allegedly led to widespread human rights abuses. Many individuals purchasing diamond engagement rings or diamond wedding rings will not even contemplate the fact that their diamond could be one of conflict.

The Kimberley Process was established in 2003 after Global Watch research revealed that the international diamond trade fueled human rights violations, including armed conflict and sexual violence, in some African nations. The Kimberley Press requires participating governments to ensure that diamonds are conflict free before trading them internationally. However despite extensive publicity of the blood diamond controversy, few retailers can guarantee that their diamonds are conflict free.

At Mad About Diamonds we carry out the utmost inspections of all of our diamonds to ensure as best we can that they are of the highest quality and not sourced from conflict areas, We only supply certified diamonds from one of the world’s top three Grading Labs: GIA, HRD and IGI thus guaranteeing the absolute quality of your diamond engagement rings.

Solitaire diamond engagement rings are the most popular style of engagement ring, the term, a solitaire diamond is one that is set alone in a unique setting which showcases the stone beautifully, it is literally a solitary diamond, some also include smaller accent stones surrounding the solitaire but the attention is drawn to the one flawless stone. In order to get the most out of a solitaire diamond there needs to be as few inclusions on the diamond as possible; this basically means that the diamond needs to be visually clear as the setting leaves little room for imperfections.

Marquise engagement rings: Make your loved one smile.

2/12/2011

This season the hottest new trend is marquise engagement rings, it is in no doubt a very traditional cut of diamond. If you are planning on proposing to your loved one this coming Christmas and are unsure on choosing the perfect diamond engagement ring (as I am sure you know, there are many different styles, designs and cuts available to you) you may need a little help.

The marquise cut of diamond is of an elongated shape, giving the appearance of a much larger size of stone, it is a cut that is flattering for all ladies. The marquise style diamond was inspired by the smile of Marquise de Pompadour commissioned in the 18th century by Louis XIV of France; the diamond was created to match her smile. If you are looking for a classic solitaire diamond engagement ring that radiates elegance and class marquise engagement rings are the ones for you, they are much less common than other diamond cuts, such as the princess cut engagement rings, allowing your loved one to have a very unique engagement ring.

If you would like to take a look at an elegant selection of marquise engagement rings take a look at the Mad about diamonds website, we offer a lovely range of specially selected diamond engagement rings, both traditional styles and modern designs at affordable prices.
