Diamonds are formed in the ground under intense pressure and heat. Only about twenty percent of diamonds brought to the surface are worthy of putting into jewellery and the remainder are put to industrial use.

Out of the top twenty percent of diamonds extracted, almost all contain some form of imperfections. These imperfections, often referred to as inclusions, are created as the diamond is formed in the ground by foreign material in the diamond, unformed diamond or cracks and structural imperfections. Inclusions often appear as little black or cloudy marks, which can be visible within the diamond. Inclusions can also reduce the sparkle or fire of the diamond.

Diamond with Small inclusions / flaws / spots 1st degree. These are only just visible to the naked eye.

Very slight inclusions 2

Diamond with Very Small inclusions / flaws / spots 2nd degree. Difficult to detect even by a diamond expert.

Very slight inclusions 1

Diamond with Very Small inclusions / flaws / spots 1st degree. Difficult to detect even by a diamond expert.

Very Very slight inclusions 2

Diamond with Very Very Small inclusions and spots of 2nd degree. Extremely difficult to detect even by experienced grader

Internally Flawless

A diamond is called Internally Flawless when no internal and external spots / flaws are found by an experienced grader.
